Types Of Metal Testing

Types Of Metal Testing. When you start a metal fabrication process you will need to know what types of metal testing are available and what the purpose of each is. There are four primary types of metal testing that are usually done during the fabrication process, they are TIG, SEM, ITC and FTI. The purpose of each type of testing is to test for metals whether they are forming elements or casting, shrinkage, bending, compressive and tensile strength, fatigue, and many other properties.

There are many uses for metal testing equipment. A popular choice for both designing and testing materials is TIG welding. When we talk about designing we are talking about things such as prototype aircraft, space shuttles, cars, and other structures. When it comes to testing we are usually talking about the properties of the metal being manufactured or formed. The types of metal testing methods include tig welding, tensile strength, torsion, creep, bend, and fatigue.

With so many metals in existence there are always going to be new uses for testing equipment. When a new metal is needed to be manufactured or formed there are two options available to us. One option is to drill down into the metal and melt it until it can be formed into the desired piece or the other option is to use a tester that can determine the properties of metals and find the right properties to form the part. Both of these types of tester work very well in the industry. Some of the most common metals used for tester applications include titanium, copper, stainless steel, aluminum and iron alloys.
